Budget depends on when you play. CSRS posts a $6 daytime opening special, while City leisure-centre adult admission is $15.30. At SmashCity, September–June weekday drop-in is $7 + GST from 10 am to 4 pm; evenings require a court booking.
Village Square Leisure Centre is closed. Renovation began August 31, 2026, with reopening expected by the end of 2027. Check Southland’s schedule or the City’s relocated programs.

Dedicated Badminton Facilities
Calgary has seven dedicated badminton facilities. Six take walk-in drop-ins or court rental without a membership. ClearOne is the exception: its published drop-in schedule is for members, and a non-member pays a flat $20 + GST per person. Sunridge adds a $5 guest fee for non-members on court rentals.
CSRS — Calgary South Racquet Sports (SE)
16-court facility with professional LED lighting, air conditioning, showers, and an on-site pro shop with equipment rentals and stringing. The courts are shared with pickleball, so the badminton count on any given evening is lower than 16. The $6 daytime drop-in is the cheapest dedicated-facility rate in Calgary.

Read the small print: these drop-in rates are posted as a "Drop-in Opening Special", not a standing price list, and the same page still carries a "guest fees waived until June 2026" line that has now expired. Confirm the rate on the phone before you count on $6.
Sunridge Badminton Centre (NE)
The northeast sister facility to CSRS (both run on the same sunridgebadminton.ca site) and one of Calgary's longest-established dedicated badminton halls. Sunridge hosts YONEX Alberta Series tournament stops and is a home base for GX Badminton lessons and camps. The site shows an "under new management" banner, and the drop-in schedule heading on the live page has no rate table beneath it. Only the two daytime prices below are published — call before turning up in the evening.

Centre Avenue Badminton (NE)
Calgary's only facility with 13 BWF-approved Yonex courts and FlexOne subfloor built for international competition. Dedicated airflow control (designed to manage air movement) and variable LED lighting. Pro shop on-site. $50/year membership unlocks lower drop-in and court rental rates. Every rate below is plus GST.
Before you rely on drop-in here: Centre Avenue states that drop-in sessions are subject to court availability and that patrons renting courts have priority. On a busy night that can mean a single game, or 15 minutes, for the price of a full session. If you want reserved court time, rent a court instead.

SmashCity / Gao Badminton Tao (SE)
Multi-sport facility (badminton, volleyball, pickleball). Gao Badminton Tao manages all badminton programming from beginner through Junior High Performance. Drop-in pricing runs on two bands — a summer band in July and August, and an in-season band from September to June — and the difference is large enough to catch people out.
September–June: weekday drop-in costs $7 + GST from 10 am to 4 pm. Weekday evenings require a court reservation; weekend and holiday drop-in costs $15 + GST. The July–August rate is $15 + GST all day. Check SmashCity’s current timetable.

10-court multi-sport facility. Synergy does run badminton drop-in — "feel like playing, drop in anytime", with no partner or group required — which earlier versions of this guide missed. Pricing sits behind an account login, so the drop-in fee is shown at booking rather than posted publicly. On-site recovery room with hot tub, cold plunge, and steam room.

Do not treat ClearOne as a walk-in venue. The facility defines drop-in as open to ClearOne members who pay a set fee, and the published $12 session prices are member prices behind a $50 + GST annual membership. A non-member turning up is charged a flat $20 + GST per person for drop-in or court rental. There is also no weeknight drop-in: weekday sessions finish at 5:30 PM.

Edison Badminton Centre (Foothills — South of Calgary)
34-foot ceilings, Olympic-grade Taraflex flooring, blue walls for shuttle visibility, and inter-court lighting to reduce eye strain. Pro shop on-site. Open seven days a week, and now a drop-in venue rather than a rental one: Edison states it is no longer offering court bookings during regular drop-in hours.

House rules worth knowing: when players are waiting, courts rotate after a single 21-point game, and unaccompanied juniors must be collected by 9 PM. Call ahead for current booking options — court rental is no longer available during drop-in hours.
Private Badminton Clubs
Two of Calgary's oldest athletic clubs have badminton courts reserved for members. Neither takes drop-ins, and the Glencoe is not even accepting waitlist names at the moment — so treat this section as background, not as somewhere you can play this week.
Calgary Winter Club
5 badminton courts with hardwood floors. Programs include singles and doubles ladders, cardio badminton, competitive juniors, drop-in play, and private lessons — all for members. Hosts Badminton Alberta sanctioned tournaments including the Masters Doubles.

The Glencoe Club
A long-standing private athletic club with badminton among its member programs. There is no route in for the public right now: the club states that membership opportunities are closed and that it is not accepting applications or adding names to its prospective member database. Its badminton page is offline, so court counts, programs and tournament hosting cannot be confirmed.

Recreation Centres — Drop-In
Compare each recreation centre’s actual badminton hours and admission fee with the dedicated halls. A general admission does not guarantee an available court; Southland’s current schedule and Westside’s independent timetable are linked below.
City of Calgary single admission (from 20 August 2026, GST included)

Admission is valid all day with in-and-out privileges. Racket rental is a further $2.50 — that figure is the rental, not the entry fee.
Check the session’s age eligibility. Admission price bands and participation rules are separate. Use the current sport, date and venue listing, particularly for relocated children’s and teens’ programmes.
Southland is a City-operated option. Village Square’s closure means its former timetable no longer applies. Westside is independently operated and has its own admission prices and booking rules.
Westside Recreation Centre (SW)
Westside is an independent non-profit recreation centre with six badminton courts and evening sessions. Use its own timetable rather than the City’s recreation portal.

At $20 a visit the maths is straightforward: the $88 continuing month pays for itself on the fifth visit, the $138 first month on the seventh.
Southland Leisure Centre (SW)
The City's main badminton drop-in gym, with up to 4 courts. The gym is shared with basketball, so the badminton court count depends on who else is in the room. Nets provided, racket rental $2.50, and no feather birdies permitted — bring nylon.

Village Square Leisure Centre — closed for renovation
Village Square closed August 31, 2026, with reopening expected by the end of 2027. The City lists relocated badminton lessons for children and teens at Falconridge Family Church gymnasium, 155 Falconridge Crescent NE. For drop-in, open the relocated activity schedule and check the sport, date and venue; the nearby pool list is not a list of replacement badminton courts.
Everywhere else, check first. The Genesis Centre (403-590-2833) lists badminton among its drop-in sports but publishes no times or prices. Vivo, 11950 Country Village Link NE, (403) 532-1013, appears on Badminton Alberta's Zone 3 directory but publishes no badminton schedule; its drop-in admission is adult 26–59 $21.50, young adult 18–25 $19.50, senior 60+ $13.50, teen $13.50, youth $11.50. No published badminton schedule could be found for MNP Community & Sport Centre or the Calgary YMCAs. The LiveAndPlay portal is the place to confirm City schedules.
Community Clubs and Social Groups
Most meet weekly in school gyms or rec centres, welcome drop-ins, and cost $7–$15 per session. Bring your own racket and shuttles. Note the season: several run September to May and are dark over the summer.

Fish Creek Badminton Club — FCR (SE)
An intermediate-level doubles club that has run Friday nights at SmashCity. It has no website, is not on Badminton Alberta's Zone 3 directory, and is contactable only by email, so we cannot confirm it is still running or what it currently charges. Email before making plans around it.

Mosaic Badminton Club (LGBTQ2S+-Friendly)
Drop-in badminton for LGBTQ2S+ people and friends, welcoming all ages and skill levels. The season runs September–May. Check Mosaic’s calendar for each date and venue; Wednesday locations vary. Mosaic also hosts the Western Cup badminton tournament.

Calgary Sport & Social Club — Badminton Leagues
CSSC runs recreational, fun-first badminton leagues for adults of mixed skill levels. You register as an individual or a small team and get a scheduled weekly match instead of open drop-in. The best fit if you want scheduled games on a fixed night without joining a traditional club.

Lake Bonavista Badminton Club (SE)
The one neighbourhood club currently listed on Badminton Alberta's Zone 3 directory for Calgary alongside Bearspaw. Times and fees are not published — the club is run by a volunteer contact.

How Do Locals Find Badminton Games in Calgary?
Most pickup badminton in Calgary is organized online before anyone books a court. Two channels cover nearly all of it: the Calgary Badminton Community Facebook group and the U of C Badminton Club's Discord server. The Calgary Badminton Meetup group that older guides point to, this one included, no longer exists — the page loads but the group is gone.
Where Games Get Organized
Calgary Badminton Community (Facebook): the city's main group for pickup posts, partner requests, and court-share offers at the dedicated facilities.
U of C Badminton Club Discord: the university club runs a Discord server where players find games between weekly sessions. Email ucbadminton@gmail.com about joining.
If a group session is full, the fallback is renting a court and splitting it: a $28/hr non-prime court at CSRS, Sunridge or Centre Avenue works out to $7 per person for doubles, before any applicable tax or guest fee; compare that total with the listed drop-in rates. Several community clubs also run WhatsApp lists for regulars, so ask at your first session.
University Badminton
University of Calgary
Badminton runs in the Red and Gold Gyms through Active Living and the student badminton club. The club's own page is offline and its session times and fees could not be confirmed in August 2026, so treat any figure you find elsewhere with caution and call before travelling. One rule is published and worth knowing: all participants must be 18 or a University of Calgary student.

Tournaments
Use the Badminton Alberta calendar for dates, age groups and entry links. Check each edition’s venue: a provincial event can move between cities. Our tournament calendar also filters events by province.
As of 23 August 2026 there are no 2026–27 dates to give you. The Badminton Alberta calendar shows August empty and has not yet published the coming season, so we have removed the schedule that used to sit here — every event in it was from the completed 2025–26 season and none of it tells you when to enter anything.
The recurring Calgary fixtures to watch for when the calendar fills are the YONEX Alberta Series stops, which have run at Sunridge and Synergy; the Calgary Winter Club's Masters Doubles; and the provincial YONEX Alberta Closed Championships, whose host venue rotates around Alberta.
