Where to Play Badminton in Markham and Scarborough: Courts & Drop-Ins

Conceptual badminton scene for Where to Play Badminton in Markham and Scarborough: Courts & Drop-Ins, not an actual listed venue.

Last updated: August 2026 · Written by the team at Badminton House

Quick Answer: Markham and Scarborough Badminton

In Markham and Scarborough the venues that will actually let you walk in and play are Vision Badminton and Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre on the Scarborough side, and Markham Badminton Club, E Badminton, KC Badminton and Lee's on the Markham side. Almost all of that drop-in is weekday daytime or late evening. Several well-known local clubs take members or pre-booked courts only, so read the entry before you drive over.

Facilities

Walk in and play: Vision Badminton, TPASC, Badminton Zone (weekdays before 5 PM only), Markham Badminton Club, E Badminton, KC Badminton, Lee's. Book a court first: CAN Sports Center, ICM, VA Badminton, Ignite. Members only: C2, Mandarin.

Late night

Vision Badminton runs a $5 drop-in Mon–Fri 10 PM–midnight, a low-cost late-night option among the listed private facilities. TPASC has 9:15–11 PM sessions several nights a week. Progress and CAN Sports Center run overnight, but neither publishes a rate you can rely on — phone first.

Budget

Vision's $5 late drop-in, Markham Badminton Club at $6 tax included (Mon–Fri 10 AM–4 PM), KC Badminton from $6, E Badminton at $7+tax, and City of Toronto rec centres at $4.39 for an adult day pass.

Searching for a court near you? Pick your part of the GTA

The GTA is covered by three guides. Find the one for your area — each lists the venues, prices, and drop-in times for that side of the city.

TorontoDowntown, Midtown, North York, East York, Etobicoke
Markham & Scarborough — this guideMarkham, Unionville, Scarborough, Agincourt, Thornhill
Mississauga & BramptonMississauga, Streetsville, Malton, Brampton, Bramalea

Markham and Scarborough are two of the strongest badminton areas in the GTA. Between dedicated badminton facilities, school-gym community clubs, recreation-centre drop-ins, and coaching academies, you can find a court whether you want a casual $4–$12 drop-in, a bookable court for doubles, or junior training for a serious player. The one thing to check every time is whether a venue actually takes drop-ins, and on which days — several of the best-known clubs here take members or pre-booked courts only.

Across the venues below, court rentals commonly run about $20–$45/hour depending on venue, time, and membership status. The area also hosts major competitive badminton, including the YONEX Canada Open at the Markham Pan Am Centre on June 30–July 5, 2026.

One local tip: Markham badminton courts fill fast on weekday evenings, especially for groups of four. Booking two or three days ahead — or using a lower-cost weekday daytime drop-in such as E Badminton's $7+tax 10 AM–4 PM session, which pauses during March Break and the winter and summer school breaks — is often the difference between a confirmed reservation and a waitlist.

Choose Your Path

  • Drop-in badminton: Vision, TPASC and Badminton Zone in Scarborough; Markham Badminton Club, E Badminton, KC and Lee's in Markham. Check the day and time limits on each — most run weekday daytime or late evening, not Saturday afternoon.
  • Bookable courts: Markham Badminton Club, Lee's, E Badminton, KC, CAN Sports Center, ICM, Vision, Badminton Zone, VA Badminton, and Ignite.
  • Family or junior coaching: KC, Lee's, Markham Badminton Club, Panda Academy, Bujak, and E Badminton.
  • Late-night or flexible hours: Vision Badminton to midnight daily, TPASC's 9:15–11 PM sessions, and CAN Sports Center's 24-hour court rental. Progress and McNicoll also run overnight, but confirm rates by phone.

  • Hours: 8 AM–11:30 PM
  • Amenities: Changing rooms, lockers, parking

C2 Badminton Club

MEMBERS ONLY

C2 describes itself as a dedicated club for members only. There is no public drop-in and no walk-in court rental, so do not plan a first visit here. The one public route onto its courts is a third-party session: Bujak Badminton Club rents C2 court time on Saturday evenings and takes $11 drop-ins.

  • Address: 1300 Rodick Road, Unit D, Markham
  • Drop-in: None. Members only
  • Public route in: Bujak's Saturday 8–11 PM session at C2 — $11 drop-in or $110 for the season

Mandarin Badminton Club

MEMBERS ONLY

A six-court membership-oriented club in the Esna Park industrial pocket, open long hours seven days a week. It publishes no drop-in session and no rate card, so ring ahead rather than turning up — a group with its own four players is the realistic use case here.

  • Address: 500 Esna Park Drive, Unit 8, Markham
  • Courts: 6
  • Hours: Mon–Fri 10 AM–12 AM; Sat–Sun 10 AM–9 PM
  • Drop-in and rates: None published — call for rates

Dedicated Badminton Facilities in Scarborough

Progress Badminton Club (PBC) / Panda Badminton Academy

CLUB

The club inside Progress Recreation Centre is run by Panda Badminton Academy, which also coaches on site from introductory junior to high-performance competitive levels. It runs both daytime and overnight drop-in, which is unusual in the east end. We are not publishing a rate card for it: the drop-in prices posted online date from August 2024 and contradict the operator's own current homepage. Rates start somewhere around $5 for a daytime slot, but phone before you go.

  • Address: 291 Progress Avenue, Scarborough
  • Drop-in: Runs daytime and overnight; published rates start at roughly $5 daytime but are out of date — call (416) 297-6522 to confirm the current time slot and fee
  • Court rental: Call for rates
  • Coaching (Panda Academy): Check the current program page for private, group, and competitive-team rates

Vision Badminton

CLUB

Vision Badminton on Birchmount is the most useful single venue in this guide for anyone who cannot commit to a fixed schedule. It is open 9 AM to midnight every day, walk-ins are welcome, and its late drop-in — $5 for Mon–Fri 10 PM to midnight — is a low-cost late-night option among the listed private facilities. It also turns up on Badminton Ontario listings as a tournament venue.

  • Address: 1020 Birchmount Road, Scarborough, ON M1L 4S7
  • Hours: 9 AM–midnight, seven days a week; walk-ins welcome
  • Drop-in: Mon–Fri 9 AM–5 PM $8; Monday 5–10 PM $10; Mon–Fri 10 PM–12 AM $5; weekends 9 AM–12 AM $12. Weekday drop-in also sold as a $30/month pass
  • Court rental: Mon–Fri 9 AM–5 PM $20/hour; Mon–Fri 5 PM–12 AM $30/hour; Sat–Sun $30/hour (book at visionbadminton.skedda.com)

  • Contact: 416-615-2078 · info@visionbadminton.com

McNicoll Badminton Club (MBC)

CLUB

McNicoll Badminton Club still operates at 3401 McNicoll Avenue and is listed on the Toronto & District Badminton Association's current "Where to PLAY" page, and it is known locally for late-night sessions. Its own website has been taken private, so every price and session time we previously carried for this club is now unverifiable and we have removed it rather than leave a figure you cannot check. Phone before you plan an evening around it.

  • Address: 3401 McNicoll Avenue, Scarborough
  • Drop-in and court rental: Call to confirm — no current published rates
  • Rules: Proper badminton shoes required
  • Contact: 416-523-0246 or 416-297-6522

Badminton Zone

CLUB

Badminton Zone has 5 courts near the eastern edge of Scarborough, the closest dedicated facility for anyone east of Morningside Avenue, with online booking and an on-site equipment store. Read the drop-in rule before you go: drop-in runs weekdays before 5 PM only, and the club states plainly that there are no drop-in sessions on weekends or holidays. Turn up on a Saturday without a booked court and you will be turned away.

  • Address: 2450 Morningside Avenue, Scarborough, ON M1X 2E5
  • Drop-in: $8 one-time, weekdays before 5 PM only — none on weekends or holidays; monthly drop-in card $40
  • Court rental: $22/hour weekdays before 5 PM; $32/hour weekdays after 5 PM; $32/hour weekends and holidays. Up to 6 players per court
  • Rules: Professional badminton shoes are strictly required. 24-hour cancellation notice, $3/hour cancellation fee
  • Contact: 416-292-2700 · badmintonzonetoronto.com

Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (TPASC)

DROP-IN / COMMUNITY

TPASC, on the University of Toronto Scarborough campus, runs more drop-in badminton than any other public facility in Scarborough — sessions on five days a week, including three separate Sunday blocks and late slots that run to 11 PM. Each session releases 12 advance reservation spots plus 4 walk-in spots, and walk-ins can be claimed up to an hour before start.

The catch is price: TPASC does not publish a badminton drop-in fee and states that additional fees apply without a membership. Call 416-283-5222 for the current rate before you build an evening around it.

  • Address: 875 Morningside Avenue, Scarborough, ON M1C 0C7 (U of T Scarborough campus)
  • Sunday: 5:00–6:45 PM, 7:00–8:45 PM, 9:15–11:00 PM
  • Monday: 9:30–11:15 PM · Tuesday: 7:00–8:45 PM, 9:15–11:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 9:30–11:15 PM · Friday: 1:30–3:15 PM, 9:15–11:00 PM
  • Drop-in fee: Not published; additional fees apply without a membership — call for rates
  • Reservation: 12 advance spots and 4 walk-in spots per session; walk-ins up to one hour before
  • Contact: 416-283-5222

VA Badminton Academy

COURT RENTAL

A Birchmount-corridor academy that rents courts by the hour but runs no per-person drop-in — you need your own group. Weekday daytime is the value slot; evenings and weekends roughly double. Note the unit number: this is 1370 Birchmount, not 1350, which is a common misdirection in local listings.

  • Address: 1370 Birchmount Road, Unit 6, Scarborough
  • Court rental: Mon–Fri 10 AM–5 PM from $17/hour; evenings and weekends from $27/hour
  • Drop-in: None — court rental only, maximum 6 players per court

Ignite Sports Club

COURT RENTAL

A 24-hour Tapscott Road facility that takes bookings through Skedda, which makes it a genuine option for shift workers and very early risers on the north-east side of Scarborough. It publishes no rate card, so check the price in the booking system or ask before you reserve.

  • Address: 480 Tapscott Road, Units 8 & 9, Scarborough, ON M1W 1W3
  • Hours: Open 24 hours, seven days a week
  • Booking: Through Skedda; no prices published — call for rates

Two local mix-ups worth knowing. Kings Courts Sports at McNicoll and McCowan is a basketball and volleyball facility — it has no badminton courts. Phoenix Badminton Academy at 291 Progress Avenue shares an address with the Progress club but is a coaching operation only, with no drop-in. Agincourt Open Badminton Centre, which used to appear in guides like this one, has no live website, conflicting directory addresses, and is absent from the Toronto & District Badminton Association's current list; we have removed it.

Markham Badminton Club — the volunteer club (markhambadminton.com)

Change for the 2026–27 season: the club's separate adult session is closed as of September 2026. Adults looking for that Saturday-night slot should use Bujak's session at C2 (Sat 8–11 PM, $11 drop-in or $110 for the season), which replaces it.

  • All ages, Saturdays: 7–10 PM at Markham District High School, 89 Church Street
  • Season: September 26, 2026 to June 12, 2027
  • Guest drop-in: $10/person (nylon birds provided)

Badminton racquet Recommended CA Badminton Meetup has rentals. Most clubs expect you to bring your own. Pro shops at Lee's, Markham Badminton Club, and Badminton Zone.

How Do You Choose Where to Play?

If You Want Start With Check Before You Go
Dedicated facility play Vision, Markham Badminton Club, Lee's, E Badminton, KC, Badminton Zone, or CAN Sports Center Whether drop-in exists at all, the exact day and time window it runs, membership requirements, and shoe rules
Junior coaching KC Badminton, Lee's, Markham BC, Panda Academy, Bujak, or E Badminton Age group, coach level, class length, term dates, and private lesson availability
Budget or social play City of Toronto Scarborough centres, City of Markham, Vision's $5 late drop-in, Thornlea/RH, Beaver, or CA Meetup Drop-in price, RSVP rules, provided shuttles, cash/e-transfer needs, and skill level
  • Choose Markham for the widest set of dedicated facilities and junior training options.
  • Choose Scarborough when late-night, low-cost, or east-end access matters most — several listed low-cost and late-night options are there.
  • Almost every private drop-in in this guide is weekday daytime or late evening. Saturday afternoon is the hardest slot to fill without booking a court outright.
  • Confirm hours before late-night play; several venues have different Friday, weekend, and overnight rules.

What Would We Pick?

If a friend asked us where to play badminton in Markham or Scarborough tonight, we would not send the full directory first. We would narrow it by budget, booking certainty, schedule, and player level.

You Are We Would Pick Why
First-timer on a budget A City of Toronto Scarborough centre or Markham Badminton Club weekday daytime $4.39 adult day pass at a rec centre, or $6 tax included Mon–Fri 10 AM–4 PM on a proper club court. Confirm shoes, racket and shuttle requirements before attending
Weekly doubles group of four Markham Badminton Club or E Badminton court rental $25–$35/hour split four ways is $6–$9 each; book 2–3 days ahead for weekday evenings
Shift worker or night owl Vision Badminton, then CAN Sports Center Vision takes $5 walk-ins Mon–Fri 10 PM–midnight. For true overnight, CAN Sports Center rents courts around the clock at $28/hour between 11 PM and 9 AM
Parent of a 5–11 year old KC Badminton Two Markham campuses with age-banded intro groups starting at age 5
Competitive ambitions Lee's Badminton Founder Jennifer Lee coached Canada's Olympic badminton team at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020

From our stringing bench: players who train on feather shuttles at a dedicated club often struggle at school-gym community nights because nylon shuttles fly and slow down differently. If most of your play is nylon, testing a modest tension adjustment within the racket manufacturer’s limit may help you find a preferred feel; no fixed adjustment applies to every player. Shoe rules also vary: some dedicated facilities require badminton-specific or non-marking indoor court shoes, so check the policy before your first visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
