Choosing a string and tension

You can request your usual setup or ask us to help. Start with how consistently you hit the centre of the string bed, the feel you like and your racket’s rated tension range.

Starting point Typical tension
Beginner 20–22 lbs
Intermediate 23–25 lbs
Advanced, with consistent contact 26–28 lbs

These are starting ranges; your frame’s limit and your comfort determine the final choice. Higher tension asks for more consistent contact. With plastic shuttles, discuss a tension 2–3 lbs below your feather-shuttle setup.

Read the string tension guide, how to choose strings or when to restring.

What we check

We inspect and replace damaged grommets, support the frame on the machine, pull tension evenly and stay within the racket’s rated range. The final check covers knots and the string bed.

If a knot slips or the string bed is uneven, bring the racket back so we can put it right.

Before you restring

How often should I restring?

If you play twice a week or more, consider checking your strings every 2–3 months. Restring sooner if they feel mushy, lose their usual response or show deep notches at the crossings.

Can I bring my own string?

Yes. Bring a sealed set and tell us the tension you want. We’ll confirm the labour price before the job.

Will restringing damage my racket?

A proper restring is suitable for a healthy frame. We inspect the racket and grommets, support the frame and stay within its rated tension range. Let us know about any cracks, past clashes or repairs before drop-off.
